KaterBot

KaterBot is operated by Kater, a community platform at kater.me. It generates preview cards for URLs shared by users, fetching page titles, descriptions, and Open Graph metadata.

It is a link preview service, not a search engine or an AI training crawler. It does not recursively crawl websites or submit forms.

Requests use HTTP GET and the User-Agent KaterBot/1.0. The service fetches individual URLs for link previews without sending Kater users’ login credentials to the destination website. It does not execute page JavaScript or follow HTTP redirects.

Preview results, including unsuccessful fetches, are cached for 24 hours to reduce repeated requests for the same URL. Private and local network addresses are excluded from fetching.

KaterBot supports Web Bot Auth using Ed25519 HTTP message signatures. When signing is enabled and an initial fetch is blocked, it can retry with the Signature-Agent, Signature-Input, and Signature headers. A signature identifies the requester; access remains subject to the destination website’s rules.
